WHAT'S A DOMAIN NAME?

The first thing you'll need in order to have a veterinary website on the Internet is a "DOMAIN NAME".  Your Domain Name is the name of your Veterinary Website.  It's your "dot.com" address on the Internet, for instance, YourClinicName.com .  Your Domain Name acts like your website's social security number.  Everyone's is different and unique, so that your Domain Name identifies your website from all others.  If you already have a Domain Name, we'll transfer your name to your new website.

If you need a domain name to get started, tell us the name you would like and we’ll check to see if your name has already been registered by someone else. If it has, we’ll help you choose an available domain name and register it for you.  Domain names must be registered and registration is limited to a certain number of years.  If you want to keep your Domain Name, we will simply re-register the name for you before it expires.  We'll let you know before your registration expires, so that you can decide to keep your same name, or choose a new one. You can also have multiple domain names. Sometimes this is done to protect your hospital’s name or even your own name, from being registered by someone else.

It’s important to remember that ANYONE can register YOUR name or your hospital’s name. If your name is Dr. Bob Smith, any other Dr. Bob Smith can register your name, if he gets the domain registered first. Even if his name is NOT Dr. Bob Smith, any competitor can register YOUR hospital name. That’s why registering your domain name is so important to your business. Even if you think you don’t need a website, you need to secure your domain name for the future. We’ll help you to verify if your name or the name of your facility has been registered by someone else, tell you who registered it, and help you choose an alternative name that will work for your veterinary website.

Already Have A Domain?

If you already have a domain name, then all we need to know is where your domain name is registered and your administration access information so that we can "point" your domain name to the proper "server" where you new website will live in cyberspace. If your domain name is your website’s social security number, then your website server is its zip code. Your Webmaster will point your domain name to the proper address on our servers so that everyone can visit your new state-of-the-art veterinary website.

Not Sure Where Your Domain Name Went?

If you do not know where your domain is registered or if you’ve lost your information on how to access your domain name information, no need to worry.  We’ll trace your domain name for you and have your registrar send you your registration information which you can then forward to your Webmaster.  This process usually only takes a couple of days. If you already have all your domain name information, your name can be pointed to your new website in a matter of minutes.
